CONCERT INFO: Saturday, August 22nd - Mercy Lounge
« on: August 19, 2009, 04:30:56 PM »
A little bird told me that The Features were playing this Saturday at Mercy Lounge. Occasion? Nashville Cream 3rd Anniversary Party.

It's not on the band's website, but I found it posted here: http://www.mercylounge.com/calendar/venue/mercy/2009/08/22/nashville-cream-3rd-anniversary-party/.

Any takers?

That's two shows in a row now.  Are you gunning for the job of "Official Show Announcer" on the message board?

They say it will be a short set and that it will be lots of new material.  I will go if I can.  Word on the street is that the newest material blows away what was done on Salvation, and I would like to hear some of it at its genesis, like I used to do ten years ago with the Exhibit A stuff.

Will you be recording the show for posterity?

Well, I would like to be there, but I'm not sure if I'll actually go. If I do, I probably won't record it.

The show was fantastic as always.  I saw Roger buying groceries the next day and he told me that they had originally been asked to play a short set of new songs, but right before show time they were told to play as long as they wanted.  After 2 new songs (which I think made their debut at a private event the night before), Matt said, "We don't have a setlist tonight, so....."  Of course, that's when the requests started.  Someone immediately yelled "Exorcising Demons" so they played it.

The 4th song was one they had played once or twice before and it floored me just like last time.  It could quickly become one of my favorites.  It has this epic keyboard riff and, of course, some great sing-along potential.  Matt introduced it as "Rambo" and Roger later explained to me that it was a working title that seems to have stuck.

They played about an hour, with a total of 5 or 6 newish songs (all were great) and some crowd favorites.  Probably the highlight was when they played Bumblebee after some extremely loud requests.  This was mostly in response to Rollum breaking down his drum kit.  Apparently, he had anticipated a shorter set and the new stuff was wearing him out.  He eventually put the high hat back together and joined in, though.

Towards the end they played Walk You Home (dedicated to Luke), Exhibit A (dedicated to a couple of especially rowdy fans), and Mosis (P)Tosis.  No Thursday, though.
