The Features Week
« on: June 01, 2009, 01:39:13 AM »
So, Amazon.com states that SKoS will be available June 9th.  I know that there are folks out there that are on Blogger, Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc.  How about a coordinated, propaganda attack using social networking sites for the nation-wide release of SKoS?

I think I'll be doing a review of SKoS and I'll probably do a post with an argument entitled "A Case for The Features: why a band from a small town in Tennessee should be your favorite band."

I really like what Digsy has been doing with his Tumblr site featuring live and unreleased recordings; perhaps we all could do something similar this week and perhaps generate at least a small amount of buzz for SKoS.

What do you think?

I will of course be promoting it, all for that! I was thinking about posting a bunch of the song's on the album in their oldest form to Damage Is Done for the week leading up to it, as an "event" or something. I guess I'll do that, once I get through the requests I have. That'll be something to link around!

I'll be promoting it all over Italy because that's where I'll be all next week.

Reminds me of looking all over Cambridge and London for the then-just-released Million Ways to Sing the Blues single.  Found it at the Virgin Mega Store.

That's how it seems to be everywhere. Virgin Megastore wasn't a small little guy, but they carried EVERYTHING and that's where I got my CDs (and a Features Blow It Out 45" back in the day). Now they're gone and there's no place to buy CDs. It sucks.

You guys raise an interesting point--I wonder what the most profitable revenue source is for the band when it comes to their music.  I'm guessing digital downloads, but from where?  From my own experience selling my music, iTunes is the most popular, but there are other places that pay quicker and give a larger chunk of the dollar spent on individual tracks.  If you were going to tell a friend to buy the new Features record, where would you tell them to purchase it?  Side question - for those of you advertising the new release on your bliggity blogs and Facey Spacey's, where will you be linking to for people to purchase the record?

Last year when SKoS was released too early, I became a big fan of Lala.com.  I'm hoping they release of Lala.com again.

If you guys are the sellers of music, you let us know which is more profitable and that's what ill suggest, (Im only in the business of making the videos... not the tunes so that leaves me in the dark as to which online source is nicest to the artist...) but i will say i have a soft spot for iTunes when it comes to the Features... my first iTunes download was a "sampler disc" with Blow it Out, God Bless them for that.

In honor of Some Kind of Week, I took the liberty of updating the languishing Wikipedia entry on the Features. Seriously, the last update was about the Diesel award...from 2007, possibly giving prospective fans the impression that the band has been inactive for the last two years. So I added the following:

Quote
On June 9th, 2009 Some Kind Of Salvation will be released nationwide in stores and via iTunes.

Having won a regional competition[2], placing first with both a panel of judges and a public vote, the band will be performing at Bonnaroo 2009[3].

I'm having trouble finding info on the SKOS reissue. Will stores be carrying the release or is it only going to be available on Amazon and iTunes?

Yeah, that was seriously amazing. I loved it, it really works well with that song. The lyrics to it are what make me love it so, so good choice for a typography animation.

I will share this everywhere!
