I say post it, I'm always down for hearing more lost Features goodies!

And I'll do Extension Chord over at DiD next week. I've been waiting for an excuse to start burning through all the old pre-Rollum material.

thanks for putting up extension chord, it has always been one of my favorites. just fyi, richard dortch is the person who recorded the songs, not a town! they were recorded in jackson, Mississippi. he recorded many spongebath related bands and a few others from tennessee, including a band called Dimples Malone, and I released their one and only CD on my label (Double D Records) which includes some Dortch recordings. is there any way to allow comments over at the damage is done?

You can't allow comments on Tumblr blogs, or at least I haven't figured out how to yet. But I did edit the entry with that info! Awesome, thanks!

And anyone that has a year for the Dortch Sessions, that would be helpful!

The old boards usual gang of experts pretty much hashed out the most complete info on the Dortch Sessions in these old threads:

“Extension Cord”
Dortch Sessions

The sessions were recorded by Richard Dortch in Jackson, Mississippi. I still am not sure whether or not they pre-date the band’s first EP which was released in 1997.

Tom Foolery pointed out that in 1998 the Spongebath website was advertising the first full-length release as upcoming. So the EP was definitely first.

The actual spongebath.net page is still archived:

Wow, nice! Thanks!

I clicked on the "news" section on that old Spongebath site and saw this:

The band was recording...with Richard Dodd?! Uh, and also, the guy worked with the Beatles? Um, lies?

AHHHHH!!! ZOMBIE TOPIC!!!  It's been brought back from the dead!!!!

I know a lot of us are interested in getting our hands on some old school Features recordings.  If you haven't noticed, the new Features wiki has a bunch of stuff on it.  Just check out this list of live recordings!

Special thanks to Juan Horsetown.  He dug up some recordings that have never been circulated (like the 10/12/2001 and 7/12/2001 shows).  He also digitized an old tape that Lauren recorded at the 3/15/2001 show.  That gem includes the first performances of "The Temporary Blues" and "God Save Rock and Roll".  It also has rarities like "Harold" and "Don't Lie to Me".  Covers include "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" and "Hungry Like the Wolf."  Awesome!!!
Grass stains, airplanes, anything and everything...
