Blu Ray
ben*slack:
Anyone else down with Blu-Rays? I am, especially since the prices are slowly coming down. My only complaint is that I wish they would include a DVD copy with every movie. That's what HD-DVDs did, and I thought that was a great idea.
Either way, I think the quality of most blu rays is amazing, especially the audio. Really, the audio makes DVDs sound like an 8-track tape. The best looking transfer I've seen is probably the Criterion Bottle Rocket, the worst is definitely Christmas Vacation or Home Alone.
Wal Mart has House of 1000 Corpses and Robocop on sale for $10 each right now!

Speed Racer on Blu Ray is mind-boggling.

What's the deal with some Blu-Rays coming with DVD copies as well? They hoping you give the DVD copy to a friend? Or is there a need to have multiple copies of a movie?

For me, it's because you only have one Blu-Ray player; you've already watched the Blu-Ray in HD, and you'd like to watch the movie again in a room with your kittens where you only have a DVD player. And I know I was wishing my Wall-E Blu-Ray came with a DVD copy so I could take it to my parents' house and make them watch it, but it didn't. I'm sure for most people it's so their bratty children can watch the movie in their spiffy dropdown DVD player installed in their SUV.
Tom Foolery:
To my knowledge, I've never seen anything on Blu-Ray. Is it really that much better than DVD? I've always assumed it was just some sort of marketing ploy to make more money for the studios and have been planning to skip that whole generation of media. Should I reconsider?
