New Album News "tweeted"
« on: April 29, 2011, 11:42:19 AM »
I am sure a lot of you "follow" @thefeatures, but in case you don't they just sent out a link that had some interesting news involved with it...

http://www.thevinyldistrict.com/2011/04/tvd-ticket-giveaway-the-features-at-rock-and-roll-hotel-44/

The article, or contest announcement I guess says the album is now called "Wilderness" and will be out July 26th. (updated date on the article)

Congrats to the guys

This most awesome news!  Thanks for posting!

Also, for those who haven't seen it yet, the band's official website is back up.  Once again, Michael "yewknee" Eades has built a beautiful site around their upcoming album.  Also, YouTube has a new promo video for the new Rambo single.

Smorph, I saw your Instagrams... looks like you made it out to see the band last night.  I know it's a rare treat to have them in your neck of the woods.  Hope you had a rockin' good time!

Ya we had a great time, Always love to see the band play! We got to hang out awhile which is always great,

and this is pretty exciting to me... The guys are going back in the studio in June and July I think they said which means they will have an album in post before "Wilderness" even comes out... They be a regular LP making machine for 2011.

and thanks for posting the link to the promo video... I hate to toot my own horn. Just kidding...

Also, not sure what the policy is on posting links to files, but here is a vinyl rip from the lead single's 45 that I'm sure fans of the Features will enjoy.

As of this afternoon, they're streaming "Rambo" in its entirety on their facebook "bandpages." it's pretty sweet.

Because we are all in super excited new album mode...

I was lucky enough to get a chance to hear the "Wilderness" and thought I might be able to wet
the proverbial whistle with a couple descriptions of the lesser known tracks... so spoiler alert, I guess.

1 Content:  Solid Features track, along the lines of a GMF maybe... great rhythm part to this song and you can really appreciate what Mark does to give this track its sense of direction... "were they happy? and were their hearts Content? I hope they felt like their time here was well spent..."

2 KIDS: Probably the "rock" song of the album a real head knocker they are playing it live now, Matt sings on:
"I got mine just like my old man got his... ohhh K. I. D. S. KIDS!"

3 Another One: The unabashed Pop song on the CD, the Features do it so well, I have always thought the best rock songs skewed a little poppy, and Another One fits the bill, its hard not to smile when you listen to this song about never making your lady quite happy enough. "This is just Another One aimed right at your heart... this is just another one bound to miss the mark..."

4 Big Momma Gonna Whip Us Good: Im sure we all know this track well enough...

5 How it Starts: Very driving rock song, the band let it rip live a couple weeks back and it was fantastic... Hand claps and Matt's whaling Ohhh Ohh Ohhs and all.

6 RAMBO: We can all now hear in its entirety!

7 Offer Up: More along the lines of Another One; not in the overt poppy-ness as much as not falling in the dark rock side of the line that holds the likes of How it Starts, KIDS, Content

8 Golden Comb: Im gonna chalk this up to have being heard by most of us... but I think its a great representation of 1/2 of this album

9 Fats Domino: A totally different Features track then anything Ive heard... just a great, ballad-like track where the story teller pleads not for his love to come back, but for her to not walk out the door with his music collection. ... With maybe my favorite part on the album Matt calls his best Johny Cash singing/talking vibe where he puts his case on the line...
"I know Im gonna miss you baby and I hate to see you leave but I cant let you walk out that door baby... with my LP's..."
It really give me the feel of a great song U2 did with Cash called the Wanderer... the band even gives Matts voice a done of depth while they fill in the back round of his speech with some well placed ooohhh ohhhs.

10 Love is... Matt says that this song was a late addition to the album but is actually quite old (I think he said 12 years - you guys may know better then I do...) That being said it doesn't feel like old features. The Keys are a different feel on this song and I think like in Big Momma they kind of change course mid track and starts into a driving anthem that just makes you tap your toes..

11 Chapter 3: I believe I heard this song was being played live... I haven't had the chance to see it but I hope it continues, it is really great, starting with a few bars of just guitar it quickly switches gears into rocking song, which they bridge with a nice break down in the refrain where Matt hits some great notes...

and you will be happy to note that the boys have stuck to their guns and kept all 11 songs clocked in at around 36 minutes... never feels long enough!

Hope that helps... or makes you even more excited.

Since it contains 9 of the 11 songs from the album (minus Fats Domino and Chapter III), I thought it'd be appropriate to upload the audio from the Cosmic Charlie's show that Tom Foolery posted.

According to the band's official site, the b-side to "Rambo" will be "This Much I Know."  Does anyone know anything about this tune?

I was curious what this is? After listening to it, it doesn't sound like the features and these 2 songs aren't listed on the album track listing.

thanks for sharing this and everything else anyway... it's all awesome and I cannot wait to hear the whole album, preferably on vinyl!

the band released the single, "Rambo", on a 7" in May. it's definitely on the new record. the second song is a b-side called "This Much I Know"...it isn't on the full length, but it's still awesome. :)

That particular link was the first single release by a UK band from the late 70s that was also known as the Features. They seemed to have gained at least a cult following at the time. There were some legal issues when the older band's lawyers became aware of the American Features around the time that they were signed to Universal. Apparently something was worked out. I would assume that Universal took care of it, due to the timing of the controversy and it's apparent resolution.

In retrospect, perhaps this wasn't the most appropriate thread to post that link in.  :)

Sticking with the "tweet" thread because technically this was a tweet and it is kind of about the new album, I am happy to say that during the next couple weeks over on the Paste site they will be showing videos of the band sharing their incites into every track on Wilderness. I didn't shoot with the band but they asked me to work on the post production for the project... I have been very excited to have you guys see these because we have been sitting on them for a while now waiting for Paste, who has them exclusively to work out the details. There isn't anything ground shattering but I think it's just fun to see which songs the band like, and where they came from. Just as an FYI I think Another One, Fats Domino, and Chapter Three all turned out well... they may not be worth the wait especially now that we all have heard the songs but its cool to see the guys' sense of humor come through a bit.
